American Graffiti

American Graffiti is a comedy drama. Taking place in 1962 during the last night of summer vacation the movie tells the story of a group of high school graduates cruising the streets for one final hurrah before going off to college and starting their adult lives.

The whole cast is very lively and does a wonderful job of portraying the youths of the period. Richard Dreyfuss as Curt the dreaming romantic who is reluctant about leaving his home town. Ron Howard and Cindy Williams as Steve and Laurie the passionate feuding couple uncertain of what the future holds for their relationship. Charles Martin Smith as Terry “The Toad” the awkward nerd wanting to take on a new persona. Paul Le Mat as John the lonely drag racer insecure about his menial accomplishments.

American Graffiti is a feel good film yet it makes you think of how things change. Director George Lucas gives you a glimpse into the past. He shows a simpler time in the world; an age of innocence. The music reflects the fun loving vibes of the generation. This movie is a time capsule of a by gone era.
